THROUGH A LENS DARKLY

Cheryl A Townsend is a photographer and poet from Stow, Ohio. Her minimalistic photography leans to the metaphorical side. She has been exhibiting her works for over 20 years with numerous solo and group exhibits as well as book, CD and magazine covers. Often featured in both print and web-based journals, her works range from floral intricacies to the decay of architecture with her subtle nudes resting secretively between.

“In my photography, I seek overlooked angles and textured forms, vibrant displays of discarded beauty and grains. Looking for the tree in the forest, I focus further on the patterns in the bark. My vision is everyday objects abstracted via detailed selection. I seek blatant colors juxtaposed with decay to project the beauty in its passing. In the human form, I try to show the sensuality in non-sexual captures, to play on shadows and the bends of flesh. I prefer shooting with a zoom lens, leaving the picture to find me, rather than I to find the picture.”
